Newport News Segment (4A/4B)

The HREL Newport News Segment starts 0.139 miles east of LaSalle Avenue in Hampton and ends 1.20 miles west of Denbigh Boulevard in Newport News for a project length of approximately 13.5 miles. For the portion of the segment where there is an existing HOV lane, the project proposes three GP lanes and one Express Lane. For the remainder of the project length, the three existing eastbound and westbound GP lanes will be converted into one Express Lane and two GP lanes, totaling three lanes in each direction. The eastbound and westbound bridges over LaSalle Avenue will be replaced. The eastbound and westbound bridges over Armistead Avenue will be rehabilitated.

    • I-64 east and west over LaSalle Avenue
  • Six bridge rehabilitations:
    • I-64 east and west over Armistead Avenue
    • I-64 east and west over Billy Woods Canal
    • I-64 east and west over J. Clyde Morris Boulevard (Route 17)
  • One mile of EB and WB road widening
  • Overhead signage
  • Right of way acquisition
  • Tolling gantries
